Spring has definitely sprung in the mountains of Western North Carolina. Though not a harsh winter, it is still a joy to see the arrival of the amazing show of the flowering cherry trees, red bud, forsythia, and now the dogwood ~ pink AND white. Then there are the daffodils, tulips, grape hyacinths and violets growing everywhere. What is there not to love? I wish that I could share this sight with all of you.
Confession: I missed writing a newsletter. Life got in the way. It was certainly on my mind but not in my doing. My thoughts were unable to settle on what to share. This makes me appreciate even more the artists' efforts to consistently create. But now be prepared to hear from me for the next nine months! I am pumped! As the 2016 "season" kicks in I have a quote to share in honor of our amazing artists. "To be creative means to be in love with life. You can be creative only if you love life enough that you want to enhance its beauty, you want to bring a little more music to it, a little more poetry to it, a little more dance to it." Osho
Many of you have not been in town for a while and heard/seen the changes. I will let you in on what I remember: Nick and Nates is gone .... in their place, Apple Creek Bar and Grill ("word is" that Nick and Nates is returning in a new location .... but do not quote me); Cat in the Attic's space is now a Salon and Spa and the Cat has moved to Wall Street; the Visitor's Center is moving to Maggie Valley (leaving downtown with, currently, one empty space); Main Street Mercantile fills the previous space of Main Street Realty; and Walker's Service Station, home of Grace Cathey Sculpture Gallery and Garden, is for sale. Not only have the spring flowers sprung up but so have new businesses. "Smoke-free" Downtown Waynesville is waiting for you.
The gallery has also blossomed this spring with a garden of new artists. We have a wonderful collection of seedlings ~ Megan Richard, Holly Turner, Helen Sturgeon, Melissa Owen,Carole McCollumand returning artist/May Art after Dark feature Patti Best. We welcome them and are anxious for you to experience their amazing work.
This newsletter was recently recognized by Constant Contact, the transport of this newsletter keeping your address safe, as in the top 10% with its recipient's response. For this ..... I humbly thank-you.
Be in love with life and create. There is an artist in all of us, even when sometimes life gets in the way. And spring? ..... embrace every bloom. We cannot wait to see you!

Spotlight Megan Richard
|
Megan lives in the beautiful mountains of NC. Years spent living close to the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland, vacationing in the Cascades and Adirondacks, as well as summers spent on Manitoulin Island in Ontario have inspired her work.
Megan's paintings depict ethereal mountain vistas, intimate woodland landscapes, sunlit bays, lakes and streams, whimsical songs birds and forest flora. Her landscapes evoke a quiet sense of time and place.
Megan is primarily a watercolor artist but also enjoys dabbling in acrylics, inks and casein. She also likes to add elements of collage to her work. She finds joy in the process of painting, discovering new techniques to create work with interesting textures and color.
Megan has a B.A. in Fine Arts from Ohio Wesleyan University.
