2013 Annual Report 

A Safe Space

"Mark and Susan gave me the freedom to be honest with them in a safe space that helped me manage my struggles in a healthy way.  They were always loving, but were also willing to challenge me to be softened by the Holy Spirit in order to be a truly effective minister for God's kingdom."

Susan and I were humbled and blessed to serve as pastoral care givers to two young staff members, providing round the clock emotional and spiritual care to the 150 teenagers living in the dorms at Black Forest Academy, in Kandern, Germany.  We gladly accepted the opportunity to mentor these two individuals and listen to what the Holy Spirit was saying and doing in their lives and in our own.  Along the way, they discovered their desires, dreams, shortcomings, misgivings and many other things on their path toward God.

SAMS missionaries Mark and Susan Powell, jointly serving with Teach Beyond in Kandern, Germany, minister to missionaries and their families by providing counseling, pastoral care, mentoring, and spiritual formation.  They provide this ministry out of the centrally located Black Forest Academy, which has been serving the needs of missionaries families since 1956.
