"See What Great Love the Father Has Lavished on Us"
"I am happy as I am," Hilda said, though her foot was infected most of the time, and she did not leave her bed. Her family was told the necessary surgery would be costly, and she told her dad that she did not want him to go into debt for them to "fix" her club foot. Hilda even refused to talk to visitors because they called her a "poor little thing" (pobrecita).
I have been blessed to be a part of many young people's lives and see them taken care of, medically and spiritually. It's a lesson to us that what we think of as commonplace in the U.S.--medical treatment that can restore a person's involvement in the community and sense of self-worth--is the exception here in Honduras.
SAMS missionary Jeannie Loving is serving in Danli, Honduras. Jeannie helps coordinate short-term teams working in Honduras as well as her involvement in many community ministries.
