 SHORT-TERM SHORTS!
Do you Debrief??

Seriously, do you Debrief?  It is vital to the health of your team and the team leader's responsibility!

Debriefing is a time for team members to discuss feelings about their new environment and experiences.  Debriefing should take place every day, preferably in the evening.

Talking through your day diffuses uncomfortable situations.  It permits individuals to express the shock, anger, or joy of what he or she might be feeling in an environment of trust and openness.  The debriefing forum allows team members to hear daily situations interpreted by other team members.  Sometimes this sharing helps team members gain a fresh perspective about things that have been troubling them.

The de-briefing format doesn't have to be rigid.  On the other hand, five minutes before lights-out is not enough.  Some leaders like to have specific questions to ask. Other groups work well with open discussion.  The leader of the discussion should keep the group focused on the events of the day and make sure conversation doesn't become fodder for later gossip.
