Spring Log Buying Trip

Alan checking out several nice salvage old growth Redwood logs
|
We just got back from another successful log buying trip out West. On our travels we saw some amazing logs like the old growth redwood logs above. This huge Redwood was approximately the 12th section up the tree; it wasn't even the base! The bottom log was over 12' in diameter. We bought a 5' section of one of these logs and plan on cutting it into discs which will show the annual growth rings. It was estimated that this tree was over 2,000 years old. Not only will these make gorgeous table tops but great conversation pieces.

During our trip we bought 6 tractor trailer loads of logs and lumber, which include Olivewood, Fiddleback Claro Walnut, English Elm, Red Gum, Curly Maple, Pommele Eucalyptus, Redwood and Walnut burls. A lot of these logs have incredible figure so we are pretty excited to start sawing them.
It was also nice to escape the cold and snow for a bit and enjoy the warm weather in California!
