Join our volunteer gardening team as they care for the beautiful gardens at Park Siding Park throughout the season. Capital Long-Range Improvement Committee Public Comment Sessions and Public Hearing
The Minneapolis Capital Long-Range Improvement Committee (CLIC) is beginning work on the 2016 Capital Long-Range Improvement Committee Report.
The CLIC Report recommends to the Mayor and City Council a portion of the capital improvement projects requested by departments, boards and commissions for the five-year period 2017 - 2021. For this period, Capital Budget Requests totaling over $789 million have been requested. In advance of CLIC making their final recommendations, the public is invited to a Public Comment session and a Joint Public Hearing sponsored by the Planning Commission and the CLIC Executive Committee. Capital Budget Requests for consideration for the 2017 - 2021 timeframe can be accessed here. Park Board Open House
The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) will hold its first Open House Program and Resource Fair.
Saturday, May 710:00 a.m.-Noon MPRB Headquarters 2117 West River Road MapMPRB staff will be on hand to share information and answer questions about programs, resources, job opportunities and other Park Board offerings. Attendees can register for activities and sports leagues, or buy a parking permit. The event will also include kids' activities, a truck display, food, a bounce house and more! Calhoun-Harriet Master Plan & Improvements
The final meeting of the Calhoun-Harriet Master Plan Community Advisory Committee (CAC) will be held this month.
The Park Board is finalizing a vision and priorities for the master plan and improvements to Lake Calhoun and Lake Harriet. The meeting is open to the public and will include an opportunity for public participation and/or comment. CAC Meeting #11Tuesday, May 10Time: 6:00-8:30 p.m. Jones-Harrison Residence 3700 Cedar Lake Ave The meeting agenda focuses on prioritizing projects to help allocate approximately $3 million in improvements that will begin in 2017. The appointed Calhoun-Harriet CAC has been meeting monthly since July 2015. After the May 10th meeting, Park Board staff will compose the draft Calhoun-Harriet Master Plan over the next few months and submit it to the Board of Commissioners later this summer. A 45-day comment period will open once the Board receives the draft Master Plan. During that time the public can submit written comments regarding the Master Plan and its recommendations. Crime Prevention Tips
The Minneapolis Police Department is sharing crime prevention tips.
We all want to enjoy the warm weather. This means more people leaving windows open, walking outdoors, doing yard work, and more. Remember to keep a few simple crime prevention tips in mind to help reduce the opportunity for crimes. 5th Precinct Theft from Motor Vehicles
Every spring/summer, we see an increase in theft from motor vehicles in the 5th Precinct. In the past two weeks, there have been 23 reported cases. In Minneapolis, purses, wallets, laptops, GPS and other electronics are the items that are most commonly stolen. Raingarden Workshops
Metro Blooms is offering raingarden workshops. This fast-paced and focused three-hour workshop explores simple changes you can make on your property that helps protect clean water and create healthy habitats. It includes the latest information in healthy yard care practices combined with our popular do-it-yourself approach to raingarden design and installation. Following a presentation you will have the opportunity to receive assistance from Landscape Designers and Master Gardeners in a small group setting to go over your particular property issues.
