Park Board News

Closing the Gap
Park Board staff hosted more than 30 public meetings throughout Minneapolis this summer to discuss how insufficient funding has impacted its highly-used, aging network of neighborhood parks.

On September 29, the Park Board hosted "Closing the Gap: Insider Insights for Park Funding" which featured four distinguished park and recreation advocates from large urban park agencies across the country in a 90-minute panel discussion on creative park funding strategies, followed by a question and answer session with the audience.

the forum.

Dakota name added to Lake Calhoun entrance signs

Park Board staff installed new placards at each of Lake Calhoun's entrance signs bearing the Dakota name Bde Maka Ska.

The signs were updated in accordance with a September 2nd Park Board action taken after a discussion on a report about Lake Calhoun's name.

  • Committing to not use pesticides, including insecticides that stay in the plant, on their properties.
  • Avoiding planting flowering plants that are treated with insecticides that stay in the plant.
  • Discontinuing the sale of pesticides and plants that are treated with insecticides that stay in the plant.
  • Planting more pollinator forage on their property and using organic or chemical-free lawn and landscaping practices.
