Southwest LRT News

On Friday, August 29, the Minneapolis City Council voted 10 to 3 to give municipal consent for the Southwest Light Rail Transit Project.

The vote comes after council members approved three binding agreements that, among other things, assure that the land under the freight rail line in the affected Kenilworth Corridor would remain in public hands. Minneapolis was the final city to give municipal consent to the project, allowing the Metropolitan
Council to seek approval from the federal government to enter Final Engineering.

Code of Ordinances.

City Hall, Room 317
350 S 5th St  Map

If approved, the proposed ordinance changes will do two things:

  • Eliminate requirements that some restaurants in the City sell a certain amount of food, compared to the amount of alcohol they sell.
  • Create a new set of tools the City can use to take action against establishments that create problems in  neighborhoods.

Additional information is available at: www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/business-licensing.

You are invited to attend to express you opinion and/or submit
such in writing by sending an email to linda.roberts@ci.minneapolis.mn.us.

Backyard Compost Bin Sale - Order Now!

Pre-order a compost bin and pick it up in the neighborhood!

Backyard composting is a great way to turn food and yard waste into a nutrient-rich resource, and Hennepin County is selling compost bins to help you get started.

Bins are 3' x 3' x 3', made of cedar and wire mesh, and cost $45.

You can pre-order bins online now (ordering deadline is Noon on Thursday, September 11) for convenient pick-up on Friday, September 12, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Chowen Triangle, W 28th St and Chowen Ave (date and time are firm) at the CIDNA/Metro Blooms plant distribution event for the rain garden project. Note: If that pick up date does not work, you may also arrange to pick up the compost bin at the County's facility in Brooklyn Park.
