Compost Facilities Now Available
Minneapolis residents can bring compostable material to two drop-off sites.
More locations may become available this summer and fall to make dropping off organics more convenient.
Materials you can drop off include all food waste, food-soiled and non-recyclable paper (paper plates, napkins, pizza boxes), and other compostable organic materials such as coffee grounds and filters, cotton swabs, dryer lint and wooden freezer pop sticks.
Drop off your organic materials in a compostable bag (either paper or certified compostable plastic). Larger items such as pizza boxes and wax coated boxes don't need to be bagged.
For more information: For locations, hours, frequently asked questions, and a list of what is and isn't accepted, see www.minneapolismn.gov/organics or call 612-673-2917.

Backyard Compost Bin Sale
Pre-order a compost bin and pick it up in the neighborhood!

Backyard composting is a great way to turn food and yard waste into a nutrient-rich resource, and Hennepin County is selling compost bins to help you get started.
Bins are 3' x 3' x 3', made of cedar and wire mesh, and cost $45.
You can pre-order bins online now for convenient pick-up on Friday, September 12, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Chowen Triangle, W 28th St and Chowen Ave (date and time are firm) at the CIDNA/Metro Blooms plant distribution event for the rain garden project. Note: If that pick up date does not work, you may also arrange to pick up the compost bin at the County's facility in Brooklyn Park.
Guidelines:
- You must submit a pre-order to get a bin at the CIDNA location; there will be no additional bins available for sale at the events.
