Raingarden Project
Keep our lakes clean and support pollinators by beautifying your yard!
Raingardens are beautiful landscaping features that protect water quality and provide habitat for pollinators. They use native plants and allow storm water runoff to filter through the soil instead of flowing into storm drains and directly into our lakes. CIDNA is partnering with local non-profit Metro Blooms and the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District (MCWD) on a project to plant 10 raingardens throughout the neighborhood. A professional landscape designer will meet with you to determine the best place for a raingarden on your property. Metro Blooms and the Conservation Corp of Minnesota will do most of the manual labor of excavating and adding mulch. Cost of the consultation, design and the hard part - excavation - will be covered by CIDNA! * That's over a $200 value! Cost to the homeowner is primarily determined by the variety and number of plants ordered - generally about $225. Homeowner is also responsible for cost of mulch ($50), sod/soil removal ($40) and optional compost ($30). Learn more about raingardens at a workshop on: Thursday, May 22 6:00-9:00 p.m. at Kenwood Community Center 2101 W Franklin Ave (other dates and location are available). Cost is $15. To register, go to www.metroblooms.org/workshops. To participate in the CIDNA raingardens project and register for an onsite consultation, please contact Metro Blooms at 651-699-2426. Simply mention the Cedar Isles Dean project when you call.
You're urged to register as soon as possible as this program is offered on a first come, first served basis.
Program participants will be expected to attend a raingarden workshop, sign a garden maintenance agreement and are strongly encouraged to volunteer at the Park Siding Park flower gardens. If you have any other questions, please contact CIDNA at info@cidna.org. * Contingent upon receiving a cost-share grant from MCWD. Approval on grant application to be determined 5/13/14.

Crime Alert
Auto break-ins usually happens between 2:00 - 5:00 a.m.
Last known incident in CIDNA happened on April 28, 2014 on Benton Blvd. and Park Lane
Tips to help prevent theft from motor vehicle:
- Call 911 immediately if you see suspicious activity .
- Do not leave valuables visible in your vehicle. Even small items like loose change can be tempting to a thief. Thieves know common hiding places so don't leave valuables under your seat or under a blanket.
- If you must leave valuables in your vehicle, put it in your trunk BEFORE reaching your destination
- Bags should not be left visible. Even if you know they are empty or only hold dirty gym clothes, a thief could believe it's filled with diamonds.
- Valuables include GPS units, laptops, iPads, iPods, smart phones, wallets, purses, and more. If you spent money on it, a theft can get money by pawning it.
