Raingarden Project
Build Your Own Raingarden. We'll help!
CIDNA is partnering with local non-profit Metro Blooms and the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District (MCWD) on a project to plant 10 raingardens* on private properties throughout the neighborhood.
The cost to the CIDNA homeowner of a raingarden (100-150 square feet) will be about $350 (for plants, mulch and compost). CIDNA will provide the majority of the funding** for consultation, design and garden excavation. Metro Blooms and the Conservation Corps of Minnesota, will do most of the manual labor of excavating the gardens and adding compost and mulch (in early September 2014). Property owners will be responsible for planting their garden.
Learn more about raingardens at a workshop on: Thursday, May 22
6-9 pm at Kenwood Community Center
2101 W Franklin Ave (other dates and location are available). Cost is $15. To register, go to www.metroblooms.org/workshops. To participate in the CIDNA raingardens project and register for an onsite consultation, please contact Metro Blooms at 651-699-2426. Simply mention the Cedar Isles Dean project when you call. You're urged to register as soon as possible as this program is offered on a first come, first served basis. Program participants will be expected to attend a raingarden workshop, sign a garden maintenance agreement and are strongly encourage to volunteer at the Park Siding Park flower gardens. If you have any other questions, please contact CIDNA at info@cidna.org.
*Raingardens are beautiful landscaping features that protect water quality and provide habitat for pollinators. They use native plants and allow stormwater runoff to filter through the soil instead of flowing into storm drains and directly into our lakes and rivers. **Contingent upon receiving a cost-sharing grant from MCWD.
