Road Closure for Sewer Construction
New sewer installation along W. 28th St. is scheduled to begin the week of June 10. W. 28th Street will close between Dean Court and Xerxes Ave. S. for several weeks during the construction (please note that this includes closing access to the alley west of Xerxes Ave. S.). During the closure, Dean Court will temporarily allow two-way traffic between W. 28th St. and W. 29th St. in order to allow motorists to get to and from the Calhoun-Isles townhomes and condos. Flaggers will be in place 24 hours a day to direct motorists on Dean Court. During weekends when crews are not working, the work area will be reopened with a gravel surface and Dean Court will revert to one-way traffic. Please remember to drive slowly around work areas and pay attention to posted signage for direction. Additional traffic changes and closures of Xerxes Ave. S. and W. 29th St. will occur in the coming months as work progresses.
If you have questions about the project please contact Tim O'Donnell, the project's Metropolitan Council Environmental Services Citizen Liaison, at 651-602-1269 or tim.odonnell@metc.state.mn.us. For more project information, visit the project website at www.metrocouncil.org/sewerconstructionupdates.
To sign up for project email updates, please send an email to bgrand@zanassoc.com stating that you would like to receive Cedar Lake Area Sewer Improvements email updates.

Southwest Light Rail Transit Open Houses
Public Open Houses on Freight Rail Issue
Two public open houses will be held on engineering concepts for resolving the location of freight rail in the design of Southwest LRT. Thursday, June 138:00-9:30 a.m. and4:30-7:00 p.m. Commons Cafeteria at Benilde-St. Margaret's School 2501 Highway 100 South St. Louis Park MapProject engineers will present details of their concepts and seek public feedback. The concepts explore various possibilities for co-locating freight and LRT tracks in Minneapolis, as well as options to reroute freight rail traffic in St. Louis Park to make way for LRT tracks. The co-location option involves building LRT tracks next to freight rail tracks where TC&W currently operates trains through the Kenilworth area in Minneapolis. The relocation option involves relocating TC&W's trains to CP's Minneapolis, Northfield & Southern (MN&S) track in St. Louis Park and BNSF's Wayzata line in St. Louis Park and Minneapolis. This freight reroute would make room for the addition of Southwest LRT tracks through the Kenilworth area. Six co-location concepts being presented involve the following in the Kenilworth Corridor in Minneapolis: - Building LRT tracks along the freight tracks and trail, with all modes at ground level.
- Relocating the trail out of the corridor between the Midtown Greenway and Cedar Lake Parkway.
- Elevating the trail.
- Building a shallow tunnel for LRT tracks.
- Building deep twin tunnels, with one tunnel for each
LRT track. - Elevating LRT tracks.

CIDNA Seeks More Mitigation for Sewer Project on Greenway
The Metropolitan Council's sewer project has taken out many trees on the Greenway around Thomas and Upton Avenues.
This photo shows the empty hillside on the Greenway that was full of a small forest before the sewer project. CIDNA is seeking more replacement trees and landscaping from the Met Council as mitigation for this loss. The Hennepin County Regional Railroad authority has proposed only a few trees for replacement. We are awaiting revised plans.

Crime Alerts
Occupied Residential & Apartment Burglaries
Between April 2nd and May 11th, 17 occupied residential and apartment burglaries occurred in the Fifth Precinct. An occupied burglary is when the suspect enters the home and a resident is present. Note that this is different than home invasions, which are when a suspect enters the home with the intention of robbing or harming the person inside. In these occupied burglaries, the majority of the residents were asleep and the suspects often did not go anywhere near them. In instances where the resident and suspect saw each other, the suspect fled. 70% contained no force, utilizing unlocked doors and windows and removing screens. Other cases included entrance via breaking a window and via forcing open a door. In some of the cases, the suspect did not enter the home, but stole items by cutting or removing the window screen and reaching through an open or unlocked window. These incidents occurred in apartments as well as residential homes. Due to the time of these cases, suspect descriptions are minimal. No one was harmed in any of these incidents. What you can do: - Call 911 on suspicious activity
- Get to know your neighbors
- Form a block club if one does not exist
- Lock your doors and windows, even if you're home or in
the yard - Pin your windows so you can stop them at 6" or less
- Record the make/model/serial number on valuables so it
can increase the chances of recovery and locating a suspect. It's especially important on bicycles! - Watch an interview of a chronic burglar to see what he
looks for in a location.
For more crime prevention information, visit the City's Crime Prevention webpage or contact Crime Prevention Specialist Chelsea Adams, 612-673-2819 or chelsea.adams@minneapolismn.gov. Luring Attempts
An alert was sent regarding several luring incidents which have occurred in the Fifth Precinct in recent weeks. The Minneapolis Police Department is taking each and every one of these reports seriously and has assigned a dedicated investigator to look into the incidents. Valuable information has been obtained from the community and witnesses. The Fifth Precinct patrol officers have stopped and identified occupants of several vehicles matching the description of vehicles described in the calls. The information has been shared with several surrounding communities and departments in case they have experienced similar incidents or have any further information. Please continue to call 911 on suspicious activity including suspicious vehicles and persons. For more information on how to keep your children safe: Child and Teen Safety Tips.pdf
