Public Hearing Notice-Tonight

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) Planning Committee will hold a public hearing on a concept plan for proposed trail improvements along Dean Parkway and Cedar Lake:

Tonight, Wednesday, March 6
6:30 p.m.
MPRB Headquarters
2117 W. River Rd.  Map

The resolution before the Planning Committee is to approve the preferred concept plan as recommended by a Community Advisory Committee (CAC). Trail safety, usability/functionality, and tree preservation were the community priorities that guided the CAC's overall recommendations for trail improvements.

The concept plan is based on community preferences received through extensive outreach, including three public meetings, an open house, and public surveys. Included in the plan are separated bicycle and pedestrian trails between Dean Parkway and Kenilworth Trail as well as safety improvements at key intersections. Missing segments of connecting off-street trails will be added between West Lake of the Isles Parkway and Cedar Lake Parkway. The parking lots on Cedar Lake will be modified and the bicycle trail realigned along the parkway.

You are invited to attend this public hearing where you will have an opportunity to review the plans and share your comments with the Planning Committee.

You are also welcome to attend the fourth CAC meeting:
Tuesday, March 26
6:30-8:30 p.m.
Kenwood Community Center
2101 W Franklin Ave.  Map
The impact of the proposed Southwest LRT on the project area, including South Beach at Cedar Lake will be discussed and a CAC position will be developed.

You can sign up for project updates. For further information about this and future improvements, visit the project page on the MPRB website.

Crime Alert

Recently, the Fifth Precinct has seen an increase in smart phones taken in thefts and robberies.

Several incidents have occurred while the owner is using it or the phone is in plain sight.

Smart phones are valuable commodities, often reaching $200 or more on the black market. Not only can the phone be stolen, but personal and financial information can be taken from the phone as well.

Tips to help you stay smart when using your phone:

  • Don't talk or text while walking or driving. Pay attention to your surroundings.
  • Put your phone away when it's not in use.
  • Do not leave your phone unattended in public places such as a restaurant table or bar.
  • Enable the passcode option on the phone to assist in keeping your personal information secure.
  • Do not leave your phone or charger in your vehicle.
  • Wipe the phone clean of any personal information before trading, selling or recycling of it.
  • Consider enabling the GPS location service for your phone. Keep in mind, for safety concerns when posting media online, you might want to remove GPS from attaching to photographs.
  • Consider downloading a reputable app for tracking or security.
  • Please call 911 regarding any suspicious persons, vehicles or activity.
