Park Siding Park Construction Begins November 5
As Metropolitan Council Environmental Services (MCES) begins the new phase of its sanitary sewer force main construction, it will create a temporary access road that will cut across the the northwest corner of Park Siding along W 28th St. In preparation, two trees and play equipment will be removed Monday, November 5. Construction fencing will then go up, and the access road created. Click on these links for more information: ParkSiding_PlaygroundImpacts.pdfParkSiding_MCESAccessRd.pdf The construction window for paving is short, and the road must be in place to allow construction of the force main on W 28th St by January 2013. This force main work is expected to be completed in May 2013. The temporary access road will then be removed. Trees will be replanted, and play equipment replaced.
For further information about the sewer project, see the MCES website.

Proposed LRT Bridge at Cedar Lake Parkway
Below is note from Art Higinbotham, Co-Chair of CIDNA's Transportation Committee."The DEIS for the SWLRT has issued and is available at southwesttransitway.org. Of interest to all of our neighborhoods is the proposal for much-needed grade separation at Cedar Lake Parkway. What the HCRRA has proposed and the FTA report does not challenge is a behemoth concrete and steel overpass, which will rise 38 feet from grade (20 feet for the underpass and 18 feet for the trains and catenary wires; it will look much like the Hiawatha overpass at Lake St., something Mussolini would be proud of. It will be visible to residences on Lake of the Isles and Cedar Lake (and even Lake Calhoun); it will create very significant noise and vibration , disrupting the tranquility of our neighborhoods, parks and lakes. It will rise from grade some several hundred feet on both sides of the crossing, blocking views from many residential properties. There is a viable alternative: a tunnel from the Lake St. viaduct to north of the Cedar Lake-Lake of the Isles channel that will eliminate visibility and noise issues and reduce vibration substantially. It would return the Kenilworth corridor to almost the same pristine condition that existed before the temporary accommodation of freight rail. The water table is 28 feet below grade at this intersection and is not an issue. A trench for the LRT is not a viable alternative: It would require elevating Cedar Lake Parkway and the trails where connectivity to Burnham Road and Sunset Boulevard is needed. It would not eliminate noise and visibility issues." -from Art Higinbotham Source: Southwest Light Rail Transit, Draft Environmental Impact Statement, Appendix F-Part 1: Conceptual Engineering Drawings, page 54.
