Greetings!

In an effort to create more opportunities for you to connect with nature and learn more about what is happening here at Pacific Rim Institute, I will start hosting tours every month.

If you live nearby, or if you might be visiting in the next year, please plan on joining me for a walking tour at 5:30 PM on the First and Third Thursday of every month.

I look forward to seeing you on the prairie! First tour is March 20, 2014.

Best Regards,

Another Grant Contract Completed!
property 6

With the support of many volunteers, we have officially completed our third grant with the USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service.  Miles of fencing have been removed, thousands of native flowers and grasses have been planted, and wildlife habitat has been improved.

Thank you to everyone that has volunteered over the past few years! Your help has not only directly improved native prairie, you have also helped us secure critical funding for continuing our mission.
Owl Barn listed on the Heritage Barn Register!

With a big thanks to Harrison Goodall of Whidbey Partners in Preservation, our owl barn was recently added to the Washington State Heritage Barn Register by the Governor's Advisory Council on Historic Preservation and the Washington State Department of Archaeology & Historic Preservation.

We are currently seeking funding to make necessary repairs to the c1910 structure.

Robert Hosts Monthly Tours

Cabin fever? Guests staying a bit too long? Why not push the spring envelope and get a jump start on your walking and tour one of Whidbey Island's most unusual sites?

Come out to the Pacific Rim Institute's 175 acres of prairie and forest this spring for a guided tour. See our restoration (endangered species, dozens of native plant species) and research on habitat improvement (with UW, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and others).

Why?

It is good to know more about the place in which we live!

What?

One hour tour of our main prairie and forest sites, including research and restoration projects.

When? 5:30 pm on Thursday 20 March, then the first and third Thursdays of the following months

Who?

Pacific Rim Institute CEO Dr. Robert K. Pelant will lead the tours, sharing details about why PRI exists, why we have the programs we currently operate and what we are planning for the future.
