Pacific Rim Institute for Environmental Stewardship

Greetings from the prairie!

The geese are migrating and the change of seasons is evident everywhere. We also have big changes coming at PRI - including our first expansion of the native prairie!

This week we culminate four years of effort to nearly triple our native prairie area from 4.5 acres to 12.5 acres. It's a good start toward restoring Washington's most rapidly disappearing ecosystem - a key part of our mission. This is possible because of individuals like you, the USDA, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and others. The benefits to our community, wildlife and our aquifer are immeasurable.

Prairie Flora

We are currently developing a partnership to launch draft-animal-powered sustainable agriculture on our site. This will provide a multitude of learning opportunities, greatly reduce our costs to prepare land for restoration and facilitate production of organic vegetables and heirloom grains. It will move us toward a more sustainable business model and is a visual example of stewardship of creation. Your support has played a key role in equipping PRI to be able to enter into this and other meaningful partnerships.

Please consider making a critical and timely gift to make a difference. Your financial gift will help us complete 2013 strong and launch into our programs in 2014.

Some examples of how your contributions can make a difference:

$25 plants up to 15 Garry oak trees

$50 adds up to 30 native flowering plants into the prairie

$100 covers a group volunteer day on the prairie of up to 200 person-hours

$250 provides mentorship and training for a restoration intern for one week

$1,000 maintains our 4 miles of public trails for the community for a year

$5,000+ will enable us to remove all Game Farm debris from the prairie forever

We wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving.
