Jeff's Take
Being Your Voice in
Washington
Two weeks ago, I had
the
opportunity to visit Washington, D.C. to meet with Senators
Donnelly and Coats, as well as Representatives Walorski, Stutzman,
Young, Rokita, Messer, Brooks, Buschon and Visclosky. We try to
visit our nations capitol once a year to make sure our
elected representatives understand what is important to business
leaders from across Indiana and in particular Northern Indiana.
We covered a wide variety of topics including issues like new EPA
requirements, transportation funding, education, drug use in
communities, the export-import bank, the federal deficit and
government spending, and veterans affairs.
The business climate plays an important role in our ability to
attract, retain and grow new jobs in our area. Its an important
part of our economic development focus and we work hard to make sure
our local, state and federal officials understand the important role
they play in growing our communities. Our elected officials make
important decisions that we know could influence your companys
decision to grow and expand or make new investment.
Im impressed with this current group of Indiana Legislators. Each
was very generous with their time and very open and candid about key
issues of interest here at home and abroad. Congress currently has a
pretty low opinion rating and a reputation that isnt very
favorable. But I had a chance to see a different side, as I saw
first-hand the efforts of some committed men and women from the
Indiana delegation working hard to find common ground and advance
important initiatives.
Well continue to work to be your voice in Washington, Indianapolis
or here locally. Please let us know if there are key things on your
mind or barriers preventing your business from growing!
