New Distribution Center = New Jobs

Hubbell Inc.-owned RACO relocated its distribution center from South Holland, Ill. to South Bend, creating up to 77 new jobs by 2015. The company also spent about $1.5 million to move out of Cook County and into a new business park in northern Indiana. Governor Mike Pence, South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg along with members of the South Bend City Council were on hand to cut the ribbon at the new center.

Site Selectors Guild Conference

Regina Emberton of Michiana Partnership and Greg Lorch of the SJC Chamber attended the Site Selector Guild last month in Indianapolis. Key takeaways from site selectors were:

  • Consideration for selecting a site includes: labor, cost of doing business and ease of doing business
  • In order to be competitive, local permits should not take longer than 30 days to obtain
  • If a location does not have ready sites, it will be hard
    to compete
  • Market yourself regionally, sell yourself locally
  • Site Selectors are involved in approximately 1/3 of
    the placements
  • Public policy drives economic development
  • Quality of public and private leadership drives economic development success.
