MARK YOUR CALENDAR: THEATRE DEPARTMENT PLANS COMEDY FOR APRIL

Ten two-person scenes define the format for the spring play planned for April 23-25. Mutually Assured Destruction: Ten Plays About Brothers and Sisters by Don Zolidis takes a look at family dynamics.

"The play looks at how family structures transcend time," said director and JA theatre teacher Lauren Ray. "Each scene represents decades beginning in 2015 and working backwards to 1922." The play offers a comedic look at 100 years of family challenges. It gives students the opportunity to perform work representing different periods of time, Ray said.

Shows are set to run April 23 at 6:30 p.m., April 24 at 2:00 p.m., and April 25 with a school-day matinee and a show at 6:30 p.m.

EQUESTRIAN TEAM COMPLETES SEASON; MEMBERS QUALIFY FOR REGIONALS

The Equestrian Team has completed regular competition of its first season at JA and is moving into regional competition. The team competed in three events this year in Birmingham.

"We are so proud of this talented group of students," said Patti Shoemaker, trainer. "This is our first year, and they have exceeded all expectations. Thank you parents for your commitment. We could not compete on this level without parental support."

The JA team as well as four individual team members earned enough points over the season to qualify for regional competition, which will be held in Georgia International Horse Park in Conyers, Georgia on February 21. Whoever does well can qualify for Zone Finals in Clemson, South Carolina. Nationals will be held in Lexington, Kentucky.
