JA Hosts Visit by MISBO Executive Director

Marc Levinson, executive director of MISBO, an association serving over 300 independent schools in the Southeastern United States, visited Jackson Academy December 11. He toured parts of campus and met students and faculty. He spoke to President Jernberg and the administrative team about national independent school trends in areas of financial sustainability, educational change, independent education value, and effective governance. He tours member schools and speaks frequently at independent school conferences as part of his role as executive director. Jackson Academy regularly hosts site visits by associations as well as independent and public schools to keep current on changes in education and share information that helps JA and other schools improve the delivery of education. Mr. Levinson is shown with Pat Taylor, Cliff Kling, and Peter Jernberg. Mr. Kling serves on the MISBO Board of Directors.

Little Dribblers Develop Skills

JA's Little Dribblers performed at halftime of the varsity girls' basketball game December 12. The Little Dribblers develop ball handling skills and hand-eye coordination through this activity offered during P.E., and they perform several times each basketball season. Many of the Little Dribblers continue their interest in basketball, going on to become JA varsity athletes.

Finale Presents Christmas Program

Our sixth grade choral group, Finale, presented Arrest These Merry Gentlemen in the PAC December 6. They did a wonderful job singing and acting out this story about a police detective called to find out why a bunch of shepherds are disturbing the peace in his town of Bethlehem!

The Little House program was presented by the third grade in the PAC December 13. Each year, the class learns songs, skits, and poems that relate to the book Little House in the Big Woods by Laura Ingalls Wilder. The square dances the students learn in P.E. and perform for the audience (shown in the video above) are a highlight of the program.

Wendy's High School Heisman Award

Two Jackson Academy seniors have been chosen to represent JA in the competition for the prestigious Wendy's High School Heisman Award based on their academic aptitude, athletic talent, and exceptional commitment to their school and communities. The program, awarded in conjunction with the collegiate Heisman, celebrates the achievements of the nation's top high school seniors both in and out of the classroom.

JA to Host MAIS Head During Faculty Work Day

|
Before the students report back to school in January, JA faculty and staff will be on campus for a professional development day January 6 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Shane Blanton, Mississippi Association of Independent Schools executive director, will speak to faculty and staff at 11:00 a.m. about the status of our association and the direction and vision for independent schools in the association. The meeting will also include an update on the current JA Strategic Plan.

Third Thursdays

Please join us for informal parent workshops offered to help with a variety of "hot topics" faced by parents and students today. Feel free to bring your lunch or just come listen and learn. Each session will last one hour and will be held in the PAC (Flex Theatre). The Third Thursday workshops are free of charge and are all scheduled from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.

JA Students Perform in A Christmas Carol

Three talented Jackson Academy students are in the current New Stage Theatre production of A Christmas Carol!
Eighth grader Sara Thomas Easley plays Belinda Cratchit, fifth grader Tori Johnston plays Fan and Want, and seventh grader Reese Overstreet plays a bell ringer and schoolboy.
A Christmas Carol runs tonight until December 20.
