Preparing for Ebola 

 

While an Ebola diagnosis in Lake County is highly unlikely, the Health Department and its partners are preparing to handle Ebola cases. Watch this video to learn how public health is preparing to detect, protect and prevent the transmission of Ebola.  

World AIDS Day Event, December 1

A free bilingual program, dinner, and musical performances are included in this year's event organized by the Health Department and community partners. Held at Waukegan High School's Trapp Auditorium, 2325 Brookside Ave., the program focuses on stopping the stigma of living with HIV. Dinner is 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., followed by a program until 7:30 p.m. and a coffee reception until 8 p.m. The public is welcome. For more information, call: (847) 377-8450. 

 

 

Veterans Program Moves

The Lake-McHenry Veterans and Family Services program, formerly in Lake Villa, is now in a different leased space at 100 South Atkinson Road, Suite 203, in Grayslake. The program, funded through the Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration, works through a network of agencies to help military personnel, veterans and their families face challenges, before, during and after deployments. Call (847) 377-VET6 (8386)

Dear Lake County Residents:

The peak of the flu season is typically between late November and March. Now is an ideal time to get the flu vaccine.

Whether it is a shot or a nasal spray, everyone six months of age or older should receive the vaccine, which takes two weeks to become fully effective.

Looking for Health Insurance? Marketplace Enrollment Begins November 15

The new enrollment period for the health insurance Marketplace begins November 15 and will continue through February 15, 2015. On opening day November 15, navigators with the Enroll Lake County! program will be available to educate and enroll residents at two events. Click here to learn more.   

 

A navigator is also available at the program's Gurnee Mills kiosk six days a week near entrances C and D. Hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday. Walk-ups are welcome, but appointments are recommended by calling: (847) 377-4999.

Health Department Participates in Deicing Workshop

 

 

Matt Leppala from the Health Department demonstrates anti-icing equipment during a recent deicing workshop.

Approximately 165 attended a deicing workshop at the Lake County Central Permit Facility in Libertyville in October. The focus was on effective salting practices that save money and reduce environmental impacts. The Health Department joined the county Division of Transportation, Public Works and Stormwater Management Commission as well as American Public Works Association-Lake Branch, and Beet HeetŪ to conduct the session for public and private property managers.
