Tony Beltran
Dear Lake County Residents:

Round Lake High School's Health and Wellness Center officially opened on October 7. This school-based health center, at 800 N. High School Drive in Round Lake, is Lake County's first and is one of 65 in Illinois.

The Center grew out of the Round Lake Area School District and a group of concerned citizens wanting to address growing healthcare needs and barriers to healthcare access. Of particular concern was the impact health issues were having on academic achievement. School-based health centers have traditionally helped children stay in school by addressing health problems affecting them.

Sincerely,

Tony Beltran

North Chicago Health Center Shows Appreciation for Patients

Zumba, face painting, and raffles were all part of the Patient Appreciation Day event held at the Health Department's Community Health Center in North Chicago on September 13.

Co-sponsored by the North Chicago Center for the Arts,   numerous local organizations joined in to provide an afternoon full of family friendly activities. Plenty of free food was available thanks to the donations of several local vendors. A brief presentation featured Board of Health President Tim Sashko, North Chicago Mayor Leon Rockingham, Lake County Board members Audrey Nixon and Mary Ross Cunningham and Clinic Coordinator Meryl Fury. The event was designed to thank current patients as well as inform potential patients of services provided. Watch this short video about the event.

The Health Department would like to remind Lake County residents that it is offering flu and pneumonia vaccinations.  The vaccines are available by appointment only at the Health Department's Immunizations Annex at 2303 Dodge Avenue in Waukegan.

Everyone, 6 months of age and older should get a flu vaccine every season.  Last year, four deaths and 43 intensive care unit admissions were associated with complications brought on by influenza in Lake County. Please call (847) 377-8470 to make an appointment or for more information.
