Healthy Lake County

Take a few minutes to learn about what is happening in public health in Lake County. Upcoming low-cost pet vaccination clinics, the Lake County Suicide Prevention Task Force and flu vaccinations are the topics of this month's video.

More than 700 school children received services at the 22nd Kids 1st Health Fair. In preparation for the new school year, volunteers and staff provided school and sports physicals, administered 465 immunizations and provided 150 foot care assessments. Plus, 12,000 books were given to children. The event also helped connect families with medical homes for comprehensive care in the future.

Help the County Prioritize

Lake County government needs your input! Help the county prioritize the use of federal grant funds for housing and community development activities over the next five years.  Take this survey (available in English or Spanish) to assess affordable housing, neighborhood conditions, access to parks, job training programs and other needs of low- and moderate-income individuals and households. Results of the survey will be presented to the Lake County Board in the fall.

Tony Beltran
Dear Lake County Residents:

If you have school-aged children, you probably recently brought them to healthcare providers for sports physicals or state required immunizations. You may have used different healthcare providers to meet their healthcare needs. If so, I encourage you to find one medical home where you can get your families' healthcare needs met.

A medical home is a home base for any child's or adult's medical and non-medical care. It is a cultivated partnership between the patient, family, and primary provider in cooperation with specialists and support from the community. The patient/family is the focal point. Medical home care is accessible, family-centered, continuous, comprehensive, coordinated, compassionate, and culturally effective. Click here for more details on the variety of things that a medical home has to offer.

Sincerely,

Tony Beltran

mosquito full of blood Despite the fact that the summer season is coming to a close, mosquitoes carrying West Nile virus are still present in Lake County.  The best way to prevent West Nile disease is to reduce the number of mosquitoes around your home and to take personal precautions to avoid mosquitoes. Until there is a hard frost, it is important to wear insect repellent and take other precautions, such as eliminating all sources of standing water, including flower pots, around your home.
