Healthy Lake County

Take a few minutes to learn about mosquitoes and West Nile Virus, how lawn fertilizer can affect the lake down the street, and what the August Kids 1st Health Fair is about in this month's "Healthy Lake County" video.

Low-Cost Pet Vaccinations Available Monthly

The Lake County Health Department's Animal Care & Control program offers low-cost pet vaccination clinics each month at locations throughout the county. The latest schedule runs into October, so take advantage of the low cost and keep your pet up to date with vaccinations by attending one of the clinics.

It Takes Just 15 Minutes

Using rapid testing technology, HIV test results will be available in 15 minutes at the health and resource fair scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 27 on the front lawn of the Health Department's Belvidere Medical Building, 2400 Belvidere Road, in Waukegan. The Health Department is joining community partners to host the fair in conjunction with National HIV Testing Day as a way to create awareness,  prevent new HIV infections and reduce the number of undiagnosed individuals. For more information call: (847) 377-8450.

Avoid, Exclude Bats to Prevent Spread of Rabies

During the warmer months of the year, bats seek food and shelter in which to raise their young. While bats have mainly beneficial effects, with some species able to eat up to 600 insects in an hour, they are also the only animals that have tested positive for rabies in Lake County in over 15 years.

What We Do

Last year, the Health Department collaborated with numerous local partners, met residents' needs in many ways and improved program efficiency. Learn more in our Annual Report.
