Radon Gas Testing Kits Available

The Health Department is encouraging residents to take advantage of the cold weather months and test their homes for radon gas. Test kits are available through the department for $10. The cost includes postage, lab analysis and interpretation by the Health Department.

Radon, an odorless and colorless gas naturally found in rock and soil, seeps into homes from the soil through cracks in the basement floor and foundation, crawl spaces, poorly sealed sump pumps, floor drains, porous cinder block walls and other foundation floor and wall penetrations. Exposure to the gas can increase the risk of lung cancer.
