Deicing Options for Winter

Did you know salt works better under the ice rather than on top? Watch this short video about how to protect the environment while keeping pavement and sidewalks safe this winter.

If downing a handful of sugar cookies followed by a few glasses of egg nog is your way of managing stress during the holidays, it is time to reevaluate your method
.

If you are dining out with friends over the holidays, you may want to check out your venue's sanitation record. We post food inspection reports on our Web site for public viewing.
The Heal
The $10 fee for a tuberculosis (TB) skin test remains the same, but other fees for screening and testing have changed, effective with the new budget year that started December 1. Each year more than 6,000 skin tests are completed at the clinic for people at risk of contracting TB.
Located at 515 Keller Ave., in Waukegan, the TB program accepts Medicaid and Medicare coverage as well as insurance and credit card payments. Those not covered will be asked to pay based on their ability. No one is refused service if unable to pay.

The holidays are a great time to spread good cheer but they also are a time when people can unwittingly spread germs.

National Influenza Vaccination Week (NIVW), Dec. 2-8, is an ideal time to get a flu shot and begin practicing ways to protect yourself against the flu.

Sincerely,

Community Health Center

allendale visitThe youths at the Allendale Association campus near Lake Villa can understand feeling anxious just like the animals found by Animal Care and Control in Lake County.

Animal Warden Renee Wright finds that bringing a pet from the program periodically to the campus not only provides opportunities for lessons in pet care, but also therapy for the troubled youths.

Over the past year and a half, the Lake County Health  Department/Community Health Center worked with several local health system partners to facilitate a comprehensive community health assessment and improvement plan for the overall health of Lake County.

Called MAPP (Mobilizing for Action through Planning and Partnerships), the plan was recently reviewed and approved by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH).

When was the last time you checked the tread on your tires? If a water pipe bursts in your house, do you know how to shut off water valves? Do you know where to get traffic alerts in real time?

Connect with Alert Lake County and you will be more prepared when it comes to dealing with old man winter.

High quality, comprehensive health care is available at six community health center sites in Waukegan (2), North Chicago, Round Lake Beach, Highland Park and Zion. Patients with and without insurance are welcome. No resident is turned away due to inability to pay.
