2016 Data Changes Status

Dan Curran MS, CTR, Special Projects Manager

There are a couple of updates:
  • A version "A" of the NAACCR edit metafile has been published. It fixed a number of issues with the original metafile. This resulted in many states reissuing their own metafiles. C/NET staff also updated edit sets for states who use standard national edit sets. The updated edit sets include those for Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maine, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Texas, Vermont, Washington DC, Washington State, West Virginia, and Wisconsin
  • The Following List of states have shared their requirements with us in August and late July:

Louisiana

Minnesota

Pennsylvania

Washington State

  • The deadline for the NCDB Annual Call for Data will be extended to February 28 for the 2017 and 2018 Call for Data.
  • RQRS edits in the NAACCR 16 format were published on 8/24/2016. C/NET staff are working to add them to CNExT Software.

Featured Website: Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation

Scott Ribordy, BS, Special Projects Business Analyst II
When Alex, who was diagnosed with childhood cancer just before her first birthday, was four, she told her parents she wanted to set up a front-yard lemonade stand. Her plan was to give the money to doctors to help them find a cure. Her first "Alex's Lemonade Stand", with the help of her older brother Patrick, raised an astonishing $2,000 in one day. While bravely fighting her own cancer, Alex continued to set up lemonade stands every year. As news spread of the remarkable girl so dedicated to helping other sick children, people everywhere were inspired to start their own lemonade stands and donating the proceeds to her cause.

In 2004 when Alex passed away at the age of eight, her lemonade stand and inspiration had raised more than $1 million towards finding a cure for the disease that took her life. Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation was started by her parents in 2005 to continue the work that Alex began. Their mission is to raise money and awareness of childhood cancer causes, primarily for research into new treatments and cures, and to encourage and empower others, especially children, to get involved and make a difference for children with cancer.
