Feature Article Students Ring In the Holiday Season with Winter Performance
Historic Anaheim's Speech and Debate team hold up their
winnings from their latest debate.
On Sunday December 9, 2012, the Historic Anaheim Debate Team joined ten Orange County area schools at Fairmont Anaheim Hills for the second tournament of the year with the Orange County Debate League. This is the largest tournament in the history of the league, with a total of 150 students competing at the event.
Historic Anaheim brought 15 students for a total of 5 teams to the competition. The team (including many students that did not attend the tournament) worked endless hours dedicating themselves to advancing not only their debate skills but also their skills in research, public speaking, organization, argumentation and refutation. Their hard work was rewarded with many awards! Our team won two 3rd place school awards, not only for percentage of wins, but also for total overall wins!
Top speaker awards are given to the top 30 overall individuals out of the 150 students competing. Four top speaker awards were given to Historic Anaheim Students! Gurveer S. (27th place), Bryan D.(26th place), Grace B. (25th place) and Pelin E. (15th place) all brought home awards!
Top team awards are given to the top 15 teams competing. Historic Anaheim brought home three top team awards, with three of our five teams winning awards!
