Anemone canadensis
|
| Canada Anemone has really beautiful, pure white flowers. It blooms in early summer, here in Western New York, usually around mid to late June. The leaves are a deep green and are deeply lobed, adding texture and structure to your garden. The plant grows about 1- 2 feet tall. This is a great plant to have around if you have insect problems because it draws beneficial insects to your garden, such as minute plant bug, dance flies and chalcid wasps. These insects will help rid your garden of psyllids, thrips, mites, aphids, whiteflies, and small caterpillars. Read more

 | Catalog Season
|
You have probably been getting lots of 2013 catalogs. Now is the best time to plan your new garden beds.Think about what worked for you this year. What would you like to change? Using native perennials in your garden can really spice it up. Native perennials encourage butterflies, hummingbirds and pollinating insects to frequent your garden. If you have a vegetable garden, planting a pollinator bed with Joe Pye Weed, Canada Anemone, and other native plants that attract beneficial insects, will help you keep insect pests in check.

There are native perennials for just about any soil type, light condition or exposure. It is a matter of finding the right plants for the right place. If you have an area that you can't mow in the spring because it is too wet, or an area near a pond or ditch that you spend time weed whacking, or any area that is just very moist or wet; then we have 2 lists of plants for you: one list for sun, and one for shade. These plants would work well if you are establishing a rain garden too. We appreciate your comments. We hope these are helpful to you.Native Perennials that will Grow in Moist or Wet Areas in the SunNative Perennials that will Grow in Moist or Wet Areas in the Shade
