School Year Update

On Wednesday, April 1st, Club M met in Mount Pleasant. Club M staff conducted our end-of-year program surveys and then we went outside and had a special snack to celebrate survey day and the upcoming holiday weekend.

On Wednesday, April 8th, Club M met at both Winfield-Mount Union and Mount Pleasant. At Winfield-Mount Union, Club M staff conducted end-of-year program surveys. In Mount Pleasant, we had guest international students from the Developmental Psychology course at Iowa Wesleyan come and lead activity stations including how to use chopsticks and origami for our mentoring matches.

On Wednesday, April 15th, Club M met at both Winfield-Mount Union and Mount Pleasant.

As a special shout-out, Club M staff would just like to thank all our volunteers in recognition of National Volunteer Week which is held April 12-18, 2015. Thank you to all the mentors who have served with Club M during the 2014-2015 academic year! We have enjoyed having you with our program and we'd encourage you all to consider coming back in the fall.

Just a note to Club M families that Club M will be have its Closing Party on May 6th in Mount Pleasant and its final meeting at Winfield-Mount Union on May 13th. Families are invited to attend the closing parties. We have had a great 2014-2015 academic year and we hope that all our families have a nice summer vacation and we look forward to resuming Club M in the fall. Please continue to check out this newsletter for program updates throughout the summer.

Club M and Community Events Update

Club M will be hosting its Table Affair fundraiser on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at the Mount Pleasant High School. The keynote speaker will be V.J. Smith. Catering will be provided by Indian Hills Culinary Institute. We are currently still seeking table hosts for the event. Table hosts will be responsible for finding 8 people to attend, providing a dessert for your table to share, decorating the table in a theme of your choosing, and encouraging each guest to make a $20 contribution. It promises to be a fun evening and we don't want you to miss it! Email Chelsea White at chelsea.white@iwc.edu for more information and to sign-up to be a table host. Please RSVP to be a Table Host by Friday, May 01, 2015.

We would like to acknowledge the great support of the Mount Pleasant Hy-Vee who has agreed to sponsor our dinner by donating the food for the event.

In other news, the Mount Pleasant Public Library will be hosting its Day of the Child event on Thursday, April 30th. The event is a celebration of a Mexican tradition that celebrates children by promoting literacy. The library will be hosting an all-day story hour from 9:30 am to 8:00 pm. Please consider attending this community event. The Mount Pleasant Public Library is also looking for volunteers to read during the story hour for half hour shifts. Volunteers will be rewarded with popcorn and a $3 off of a fine card. If you're interested in volunteering, please contact Brittany Nichols, Youth Services Librarian, (319) 385-1490.

National Child Abuse Prevention Month

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. The theme for this year's National Child Abuse Prevention Month continues to be "Making Meaningful Connections." When we make meaningful connections with the children, youth, and families in our communities, we can help parents build the knowledge and skills and access the resources necessary to raise happy and healthy children. Everyone can play a role in preventing child abuse and neglect and promoting child and family well-being.

The Children's Bureau, within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, funds the National Child Abuse Prevention Month initiative each April on the Child Welfare Information Gateway website.
