School Year Update

On February 28th at Winfield-Mount Union, Club M hosted our Mentor for a Day event planned by the students in Developmental Psychology at Iowa Wesleyan College. The day was a success with icebreakers, lunch, stations, group games, and affirmations. The Winfield-Mount Union students loved having the college students come over and be mentors for them.

On March 4th, Club M met at both Winfield-Mount Union and Mount Pleasant. It was great seeing our youth at Winfield-Mount Union and Mount Pleasant after some cancellations in February due to inclement weather.

On March 11th, Club M met at Winfield-Mount Union but not at Mount Pleasant because the Iowa Wesleyan College students who serve as mentors were on spring break.

For the rest of March, Club M is looking forward to resuming a regular Club M schedule however if at any time, you feel that Club M may be cancelled, please feel free to check our social media for more information.

Now that we have reached March, the Club M youth are looking forward to getting back outside and we have the sports equipment all ready for them as the temperatures begin to stay above 50 degrees.

Club M and Community Events Update

Club M will be hosting its Table Affair fundraiser on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at the Mount Pleasant High School. The keynote speaker will be V.J. Smith. Catering will be provided by Indian Hills Culinary Institute. Save the Date invitations have been sent out to individuals and businesses and we are interested in finding individuals or groups who would be interested in hosting a table. Table hosts will be responsible for finding 8 people to attend, providing a dessert for your table to share, decorating the table in a theme of your choosing, and encouraging each guest to make a $20 contribution. It promises to be a fun evening and we don't want you to miss it! Email Chelsea White at chelsea.white@iwc.edu for more information and to sign-up to be a table host.

We would like to acknowledge the great support of the Mount Pleasant Hy-Vee who has agreed to sponsor our dinner by donating the food for the event.

Iowa Wesleyan College will be holding its second annual Belle Babb Mansfield Symposium on Thursday, March 26th. The community is welcome to attend. In conjunction with the symposium, we will be accepting donations of business professional clothing that will be donated to the Fellowship Cup because they will handle the distribution of these items. The theme of this year's symposium is "Women Entrepreneurship" and so we are collecting business professional clothing in order to assist those in Henry County who may need assistance with professional attire for job interviews and entering the workforce. Donations will be accepted at Iowa Wesleyan College through April 1st. If you would like to learn more information about the symposium, please visit http://www.iwc.edu/about/president/presidential-inauguration/mansfield-symposium/.

National Mentoring Month Highlights

In January, Club M celebrated National Mentoring Month. In order to celebrate our mentors, Club M held a Superhero Party during Club M to honor our mentors being "SUPER Mentors." These statistics from MENTOR: The National Mentoring Partnership, show the national participation in this recognition of mentoring.

Social media reach: 5.3 million impressions January 1-January 31 on MENTOR's Twitter and Facebook combined pages.

Print and online media: Approximately 650 articles reaching an estimated 585 million readers.

Proclamations: A presidential proclamation from President Obama was issued on January 1, 2015.

Television PSAs: MENTOR employed a new campaign strategy - a digital media buy through which the PSA videos were seen on 160 websites and mobile sites/apps such as AccessHollywood.com, Cosmopolitan.com, FoxNews.com, huffingtonpost.com, Oprah.com, Weather.com and Yahoo.com. This strategy resulted in 2.5 million audience impressions with nearly 1.6 million viewers who watched the digital PSA's. In addition, through a pro-bono TV distribution, television stations in nearly 20 media markets have aired the spots.
