Thank you for supporting the Club M, Henry County Mentoring, youth program.

Club M is continuing to use different methods of communication for reaching out to the community. Please like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter along with checking out our website.

The Club M website is http://www.clubm.club/ and it was launched in September and is a good resource for mentors, mentees and their families, and the community. Our website provides access to our applications, safety information, upcoming events, and more. We also keep an updated event calendar on our website to let families know where Club M will be in the community and special events at Club M.

If you are interested in the most up to date information from Club M, you can find it by visiting our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/ClubM.YouthMentoring.

If you are on Twitter, we also encourage everyone to follow us on our Twitter page at https://twitter.com/ClubMMentoring for the latest news about Club M.

School Year Update

We've reached December and the holidays are fast approaching and with that will come the colder weather so our matches have retreated inside to enjoy indoor activities.

On Wednesday, December 3rd, we celebrated the holidays at our Winfield-Mount Union Club M with our Holiday Party. We brought special games, crafts, and snacks and we enjoyed wrapping up the year together.

On Wednesday, December 10th, we had our last week of Club M for the fall semester in both Winfield-Mount Union and Mount Pleasant. In Mount Pleasant, we celebrated the holidays with our Holiday Party. We look forward to seeing our mentors and mentees after the new year.

Club M has had a great fall semester and we wish everyone a happy winter break and we will see all our mentors and mentees when our program resumes on Wednesday, January 28th, 2015.

Happy Holidays!

Important Note for January:

Club M will be presenting to the Mount Pleasant Community School District at the School Board Meeting on January 12th at 7:00 pm in the Mount Pleasant High School Media Center.

Club M will be presenting to the Winfield-Mount Union Community School District at the School Board Meeting on January 14th.

Please attend and show your support for Club M so that we can continue to serve the youth in both Mount Pleasant and Winfield-Mount Union through our program.

Ending Mentoring Relationships
According to Jean Rhodes in her article Ending mentoring relationships: Important lessons from child psychotherapy, there are ways to make ending a mentoring relationship easier on the youth. Mentors who anticipate an impending end to the mentoring relationship should give their mentees plenty of warning. A few weeks' notice and an appropriately detailed explanation can provide youth with a better understanding, reassurances, and the opportunity to reach some sort of closure with their mentor. The article also shows that the ending of a relationship with a male mentor is generally less complicated because males tend to be more direct whereas female mentors tend to withdraw gradually instead of being direct in their approach to ending the match.

Save the Date for our Fundraiser

Club M will be hosting its first "Table Affair" Fundraiser on Thursday, June 11, 2015 in the Social Hall at Iowa Wesleyan College and we are going to be looking for individuals who would like to serve as table hosts or volunteers for the event. We will be sending out RSVPs for Table Hosts in March but please keep us as part of your summer plans.
