As the year comes to a close, some of our Club M matches will be closing as well. Here are a few general tips for parents and mentors to create a smooth and healthy match closure.

In General:
  • Let your mentee know several weeks before your last meeting so they have time to talk about the end of the relationship.
    • 
    
  • Be honest and supportive with your mentee.

 

  • Talk about your thoughts and feelings for the mentee and encourage him to do the same.

 

  • Remain positive with your mentee.
  
  
Just a reminder!

 With the holiday season upon us, the last Club M in Mt. Pleasant will be Monday,December 9th and Wednesday, December 11th and our last Club M at WMU will be December 18th.  Club M will restart again in January, 2014 with Winfield on January 15th and Mt. Pleasant on Monday, January 20th and Wednesday, January 22nd.  Have a safe and happy holiday season!  See you in 2014!!

As 2013 comes to a close, we'd like to thank our mentors, the Mt. Pleasant and Winfield Mt. Union school districts, Iowa Wesleyan College, school administrators, teachers and community members for all of the support of Club M throughout the year.  We have matched 127 children with mentors in Mt. Pleasant this year and 41 children with mentors in Winfield!  We appreciate your commitment to the youth of Henry County!  Have a safe and happy New Year! 
  

 

 Mentor for the Day Event  recap!

On Saturday, November 16th, Club M held its Mentor for the Day event at the Winfield Mt. Union school.  We had 32 mentees match up with mentors from Iowa Wesleyan College for the day for fun, games and lunch.
 
Thank you to all of the mentors and mentees for attending!  We are looking forward to our Mentor for the Day event in the spring!
  
  
 
  
Club M's Top Ten of 2013

 1.  During National Mentoring Month in January, we took several middle school students to the Capitol Building in Des Moines!

 

2.  In March, we had our Mentor for a Day event at Iowa Wesleyan College.  Our mentors were students from the University of Wisconsin/LaCrosse who were coming through Iowa on their alternative spring break!

 

3.  We had our 2nd annual Bowl-a-Thon in March and raised over $2000!

 

4.  We started Club M Mondays!

 

5.  We had a station at the Halloween Walk with Healthy Henry County Communities!

 

6.  We went to our first Trunk or Treat at First Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant!

 

7.  We had our first service learning component partnership with the education department at Iowa Wesleyan College!

 

8.  We have 4 community matches that started in 2008 and celebrated 5 years together in 2013!

 

9.  We had our first Mentor for a Day event in Winfield!

 

10.  We currently have 27 sibling sets attending Club M!
