New Project in North Carolina!

Shook lands its first North Carolina project since establishing it's Raleigh office. We will serve as the general contractor for the $3.2 million Roxboro Water Treatment Plant improvements project.

Locally funded by the City of Roxboro, the project consists of a new pre-engineered process building, site work, ion exchange tank, MIEX equipment installation along with a new fiberglass building, chlorine tanks and all associated piping and appurtenances.

Shook's project team includes Project Manager Ryan Lowden and Project Superintendent Jason Bustamante with support from Project Engineer Riley Tolen. Ryan has over 11 years of experience in the construction industry, having managed water resource projects ranging from $1.3 million to $97 million.  Jason recently joined Shook with 16 years of construction experience on projects ranging from $1 million to $101 million, while Riley joins this project team fresh off of Shook's successful project in Front Royal, VA.

His entire career has been with Shook Construction and has included work on a variety of water resource projects ranging $8 million to $31 million. Project superintendents are Lyle Hoops and James Johnson Jr., both of whom have over 35 years of construction experience.  Rounding out our experienced project team are Steve Brown (mechanical foreman), David Lexow (carpenter foreman), Matt Hoops and Dustin Wheeler (both laborer foremen).

Long History with NEORSD

Our goal with every new client is to develop a working relationship that will last a lifetime, as we have with the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District (NEORSD).

Since 1996, Shook Construction has completed 16 projects totaling nearly $130 million for the NEORSD. In addition, we are currently working on three more projects totaling over $134 million.

Easterly ESSI Improvements ($82.5 million)

The Easterly Secondary System Improvements (ESSI) project includes the improvements to the existing aeration tanks, existing final settling tank, hydraulic system, RAS pumping flood pumps and NPW system.  The scope also includes the addition of six new final settling tanks and new chemical systems.

Southerly Wastewater Treatment Plant SPFI-2 ($42.5 million)

This 34-month project includes the renovation and improvement(s) to 18 primary settling tanks, new flow control channels, new chemical storage and disinfection facilities, new chemically enhanced high rate treatment system, and new primary sludge pumps and piping, as well as various electrical, instrumentation, plumbing and HVAC improvements.

Southerly Wastewater Treatment Plant SPFI-1 ($19.2 million)

This contract consists of the rehabilitation and renovation of influent junction chambers 1 and 2, replacement of seven mechanical bar screens, installation of new conveyor and container handling systems and renovations to seven aerated grit tanks including a new grit handling bridge crane.  New grit tank drain pumps and piping are being installed.  Two new building additions are being constructed for the new container handling systems.  Architectural renovations include new masonry exterior and roofing for the existing screen building.  Finally, the project includes various electrical, instrumentation, plumbing and HVAC improvements.

Throughout these last 17 years, we have developed a reputation for both quality and effective project management and have established close working relationships with many of NEORSD's personnel. As is the case with all of our repeat clients, this type of partnership proves beneficial on the jobsite as we can truly respond in the best interest of the client.

We are proud of our relationship with NEORSD, as well as all of our repeat clients.  We look forward to many successful years with them!

Message from our CEO

Frank Klein

-Frank J. Klein

The holiday season is a special time to cherish those near and dear to our hearts, to reflect on the past and to look forward to the future.

At Shook, I am surrounded by incredibly talented people. Each and every one of our folks truly care about our clients, our partners, our subcontractors and suppliers, each other and the communities in which we work. I am continually in awe and encouraged by the tenacity and perseverance of the fine men and women that call Shook home.  Over the years I've served as CEO, I have been humbled by the generosity, support and encouragement of the individuals who are Shook Construction.  To say that I have been proud to work here for the last 40 years is an understatement.

As 2013 comes to an end and we embrace the New Year, I am excited about the changes in store for Shook.  You may or may not have seen our announcement in October for our leadership transition plan, effective January 1. While I prepare to slow down just a bit and enjoy extra time with my wife and extended family, I am transitioning to chairman of our board of directors. In that position, I will continue leading our corporate strategic planning efforts, as well as the ongoing leadership development of our incredible staff.  Taking my place as president and CEO is Bill Whistler, who has exhibited impressive leadership and strategic decision making skills throughout his 34-year career here at Shook.

In addition, a variety of other promotions and transitions will take place. I publically want to congratulate those folks who have agreed to lead our organization to a successful future: Chris Halapy (executive vice president), Mike Eckley (special advisor), Andy Goetz (vice president of education & healthcare), Chuck Peabody (vice president of industrial & mission critical) and Matt Danis (vice president).  Each of these individuals is a high-caliber professional with proven track records.  True to Shook's longstanding culture, we have developed our talent pool of capable leaders and promoted from within. This strategy is the foundation of our 87 years of continuity, allowing us to stay focused on providing outstanding value to our clients.

All of our success is not possible without the dedication and high performance of each and every individual that is part of the Shook organization.  We look forward to many years working tirelessly to serve you: our clients, our partners, our friends.

Happy holidays!
