Garrett A. Morgan Water Plant
Project Receives Award
The Garrett A. Morgan Water Plant construction program was recognized for its excellence in design and construction at a recent Cleveland Engineering Society (CES) conference. Over the last decade, the City of Cleveland Division of Water has invested several hundred million dollars in its Plant Enhancement Program (PEP) in order to revitalize its water infrastructure and improve the treatment process and quality of water.

In March, the CES celebrated its 61st Annual Design and Construction Conference in Westlake, OH. Each year, the conference recognizes excellence in design and construction from projects throughout the region. The Garrett A. Morgan Water Plant construction program perfectly fit the bill this year.

Shook Construction Co. was recognized in the award submission as the builder for many of the projects that took place during the 10-year program. These included the Morgan Filter Rehabilitation ($30MM), Morgan Pre-treatment and Residuals ($42MM) and Morgan Chemical Building ($18MM). Each of these projects was completed successfully, on-time and on-budget with zero impact to the City's continued water supply operations.

Healthcare Project Celebrates with Beam Ceremony

St. E. Topping Out CeremonyThe St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center recently celebrated the installation of its last piece of structural steel with a topping out ceremony. This celebration is part of the center's new addition of a seven-story patient tower.

The last steel beam is painted white and signed by hospital employees, construction staff and local residents before being raised to its place in a formal ceremony. In addition to an American flag, a tree is placed on the beam to represent that there have been no injuries on-site and to bring good luck to the hospital.

The ceremony's attendants braved snowy conditions to witness the important milestone, which included brief comments from hospital leadership and coverage from local news affiliates.

Shook Construction and our construction management partner, KBJ Inc., are currently managing the construction of this 200,000 SF addition near Youngstown, Ohio for the Humility of Mary Health Partners. The project is being completed on an aggressive 16-month schedule and is slated to open on April 1, 2014.

Work Begins with Reid Hospital
Shook Construction has been selected as the construction manager on the Orthopedic Center North Addition and Renovation for Reid Hospital in Richmond, Indiana. The project consists of extensive renovations and an addition to the orthopedic office, as well as renovations to the physical therapy center.  There will also be utility and exterior upgrades.

This award is special because Reid Hospital was targeted as a prospective client because of our similar cultures and Shook's local presence.  We are excited about the opportunity to build a relationship with such a leading part of the Richmond community.
