Shook is Working at WPAFB Again
Shook Construction was recently selected to build a new Thermal Testing Chamber for Sierra Lobo, Inc., a large federal engineering and technical services provider, and the Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB) in Dayton, Ohio.
When complete, this will be the "Cadillac" thermal testing chamber within the federal research community. It will be used to test wing assemblies for the next generation space transport vehicle under dynamic loads and at temperatures in excess of 4000 degrees Fahrenheit, all in an effort to simulate the conditions the wing will encounter when the vehicle is traveling at its designed speed of Mach 22 (17,000 mph).
This is an important strategic win for Shook as WPAFB is the largest federal installation in Ohio and the largest employer in the Dayton area with 27,500 employees.
Construction is expected to be complete in February 2013.

Shook Child Photo Contest A few weeks ago, Shook Construction purchased an advertisement for the University Hospital's Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital charity event. In the spirit of children, we decided to run an internal contest among our employees for the cutest photo of Shook kids wearing Shook apparel for inclusion in our advertisement.
This proved to be an exciting opportunity for our staff to "show off" their offspring. While we received many picture entries of the most adorable kids, only one photo could be chosen for the ad. However, we couldn't miss this opportunity to feature all of the good-looking submissions. Our future certainly does look bright!

Shook Continues to Gives Back
Throughout the year, Shook and our employees are generously giving of our time and money to help those in need. As the holiday season approaches, our efforts are amplified. Below are a few examples of what we are doing this year.
Our Northwestern Local School District construction team have rallied with other firms to organize a food drive. All donations will be delivered to local churches and food banks throughout the Northwestern community.
Employees in our Raleigh office will be donating their time to our office neighbors, Support Military Spouses, who send care packages to military spouses and families of deployed soldiers.
Every year our Dayton office holds a toy drive for the children of mothers who are victims of domestic violence. We collaborated with Artemis Center for Alternatives to Domestic Violence, a funding recipient of United Way, to provide gifts for local children in need.
Corporately, Shook is in the middle of a United Way workplace campaign, raising donations and commitments from its employees in 2013. For 2012, our employees generously donated $59,000! |

Message from our CEO
-Frank J. Klein
Shook recently completed the process of developing a comprehensive strategic plan that will define the company's future through 2017 and beyond. Using the services of highly experienced facilitator David Ramey of Strategic Leadership Associates, the company began the four-month effort with an in-depth review of our current situation and evaluated the action steps needed to improve on our current level of success.
Our Strategic Plan 2017 is was built upon our previous effort undertaken in 2005 that helped us achieve great success during the challenging times since then. Strategic Plan 2017 established specific action steps in four key areas that address finances, people, processes and growth. We have also established a well-defined process of accountabilities to ensure completion of the action steps outlined in the plan.
We are excited to increase our commitment to strategic growth and continuous operational improvement throughout our company. We are confident our planning efforts will be beneficial to our clients, our company and our communities as we move forward with the execution of the action steps.
