We are pleased to once again work with Mary's Free Range Turkey, a third-generation family farm operated by the Pitman family in California's Central Valley since 1954. Turkeys from Mary's Turkey Ranch are raised in a humane manner with plenty of open space to roam in a stress-free environment that is four times the size of the average commercial ranch.
- Natural free range, $2.49/pound
- Certified organic, $3.49/pound
- Heritage breed, $5.49/pound
All of Mary's turkeys are:
- Non-GMO Project Verified

Back by popular demand is Alissa Segersten's, of Nourishing Meals and Whole Life Nutrition, recipe for a delicious, tender brined turkey and video demonstrating how to truss a turkey. The blog also has links to other Thanksgiving recipe suggestions.

Along with her blog, Alissa and husband/nutritionist Tom Malterre have authored three books: The Elimination Diet, Nourishing Meals, and The Whole Life Nutrition Cookbook. They will be in our stores for a book signing on Saturday, December 5: Downtown noon to 3 pm and Cordata 3:30 to 6 pm.
RECIPE
Cranberry Sauce 101

Photo by Adam Roberts of amateurgourmet.com
Forget the canned cranberry sauce. Homemade cranberry sauce is likely the simplest preparation of any dish on the Thanksgiving table. Check out Adam Robert's suggestions on his blog, The Amateur Gourmet, and step up your cranberry game.

Adam also offers a recipe for a non-traditional turkey preparation that skips the white meat in favor of braising the more succulent dark leg and thigh meat.

Let's Grow It! Campaign Update

In September the Co-op launched the Let's Grow It! campaign with the goal to raise $15,000 for the Co-op's Farm Fund. As of October 31, $3,703.89 had been raised. We have a long way to go, but together we can make it happen. And through the end of the year, the Sustainable Whatcom Fund of the Whatcom Community Foundation will match every dollar donated up to $15,000.

Since 2000, more than $204,215 in Farm Fund grants and revolving loans have helped more than 60 local, sustainable, organic farms and food/farming organizations. Imagine what an additional $30,000 could do for our local farm community in 2016. Join us in supporting the Co-op's Farm Fund. Let's Grow It!

Donate online or at any Co-op register or ICU branch.
