Thanksgiving Recipes and Tips
How much cranberry relish do I need for 12 people? How long should I cook my turkey? What's a good recipe for a gluten-free or vegan side dish? The Co+op Stronger Together website offers a treasure trove of easily searchable recipes--vegan, holiday, kid friendly, low sugar, budget, seasonal, and many more--you're likely to find exactly what you're looking for. Find tips on serving sizes, and all the info you need for cooking your turkey from our turkey supplier, Mary's Free Range Turkey Ranch. |
Local Living Trees
What's better than a beautiful living tree for the holidays? A local living tree from DeWilde's Nursery. Choose from two traditional varieties of Fir trees--Noble or Fraser. Trees range in size from 3-4' up' to 7'-8'. They are bare root trees, wrapped in burlap. Prices start at $29.98.
Want a living tree, but don't have space to plant it after the holiday? No worries. You can donate your tree to Nooksack Salmon Enhancement Association (NSEA) for use in a local restoration project. Ask for information about donation when you purchase your tree.

GhostFood--Eating After Climate Change
As we look forward to the cornucopia of seasonal food at our Thanksgiving feasts, artists Miriam Simun and Miriam Songster created the GhostFood Truck art installation to offer some food for thought about the future of food, post climate change. Visitors to the truck can sample three simulated foods--cod, chocolate, and peanut butter--foods that may one day be threatened by climate change. Patrons taste the future extinct foods using an olfactory device that delivers the smell of the food, while the actual food is made from a variety of "climate-change resilient" ingredients.
