New GMO Legislation: Contact your Representatives Today
On April 24, Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) and Congressman Peter DeFazio (D-OR) sponsored new federal legislation in both the Senate and the House to require the labeling of all GE foods; the first labeling bill to be introduced in the Senate in over a decade! Tell your senators and representative to support The Genetically Engineered Food Right to Know Act.

Learn more and take action today at the Center for Food Safety website.

Just Label It and Yes on 522
By all indications, 2013 is looking to be an important year of progress in the Non-GMO movement. More than 30 states are now working to require GMO labeling, including the 522 ballot measure that will be on the Washington state ballot in November. And, as outlined above, new bi-partisan legislation was recently introduced in the House and Senate.

Keep up with all things GMO at the Just Label It website, Facebook, or follow @justlabelit on Twitter.

Connect with the Yes on 522 campaign to stay on top of what's happening in our state at their Facebook, website, or follow @yeson522 on Twitter. Keep talking to your friends, neighbors, and family about the importance of voting YES on 522 in November.
The 2013 Dirty Dozen
Thanks to the folks at the Environmental Working Group, the 2013 Shoppers Guide to Pesticides in Produce is now available. This annually updated list features the Dirty Dozen--items that have the highest post-harvest pesticide residue--and the Clean Fifteen--the items with the lowest levels of pesticide residue. Once again, apples top the Dirty Dozen list in 2013.

Pick up a copy of the latest version at either store. Learn more about the methodology used to create the guide, download a PDF or get the guide as an app for your smart phone, and see the data for all 48 fruits and vegetables tested at the EWG website.

Edelweiss Dairy, owned by Hans and Colleen Wolfisberg
Organic Valley Celebrates 25th Anniversary

For 25 years, Organic Valley has been cultivating goodness and keeping farmers on the land. The cooperative began in 1988 with a group of Wisconsin farmers committed to organic agriculture as a sustainable solution to the staggering loss of family farms. The farmers decided that following a cooperative model, where each farmer was an owner of the organization, would best ensure each member had a voice in how their products were produced, marketed, and sold.

Today, Organic Valley represents 1,834 farmers in 35 states and three Canadian provinces. In an era where corporations dominate all facets of business, Organic Valley is proof that an independent cooperative is a successful model for nurturing local communities and a lifeline for America's struggling family farms.
