CAJM is ...
Jewish art and history museums, historic sites, historical and archival societies, Holocaust centers, synagogue museums, Jewish Community Center galleries, children's museums, and university galleries ... the professionals and volunteers who work in them ...  the children, adults, and families who visit them ...  the patrons who support them ...  the organization that keeps them vital.

ILLUSTRATOR MAIRA KALMAN AT NEXT MONTH'S CONFERENCE
The multi-talented Maira Kalman - author, illustrator, and frequent contributor to The New Yorker - will be our guest on the Sunday evening of next month's annual conference (March 20-22 in NYC). Kalman's work has been seen in Jewish and non-Jewish museums alike, and is known for its wit, whimsy, and wisdom. Joining in conversation with her son Alex Kalman, founder of Do Good, Mmuseumm, and the My Block Education Network, the two will chat about storytelling, Jewish and non-Jewish spaces, Jewish content and contexts. This program at The Jewish Museum is just one of the many offerings at this year's conference. Review the program and register today! Also, be sure to book your room at the Westin Grand Central before February 23rd for the conference rate.

EXHIBITION ON ISRAEL'S HASIDIC COMMUNITIES
For the past couple of years the George Eastman Museum has been circulating an interesting exhibition that may be appropriate for your museum. A World Apart: Photographs of Hasidic Communities in Israel by Pavel Wolberg is available through 2018 and consists of 18 striking prints. The exhibit can be booked for 8, 10 or 12 weeks. This brochure tells you more about the photographer, his affinity for the subject, additional images, and fee and contact information.

ACKNOWLEDGING DAVID MARWELL
After fifteen years, David Marwell recently stepped down from his position as Director and CEO of the Museum of Jewish Heritage: A Living Memorial to the Holocaust. Under his leadership, the museum expanded both physically, with an 82,000-square-foot addition, and in the richness and diversity of its programming. Prior to joining MJH, David served as Associate Director at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. Earlier in his career, he ran the Berlin Document Center, was Executive Director of the Assassination Records Review Board, and worked in the Justice Department's Office of Special Investigations. There, among other activities, he helped to hunt for Nazi War Criminal Josef Mengele, the subject for a book project he has now undertaken. David has been a gracious host for several CAJM conferences and a supportive colleague to many of our members. We are grateful to David, and we look forward to his book and other future endeavors.

STAY ON TOP OF YOUR GAME
Webinars and seminars from the American Alliance of Museums and the American Association for State and Local History will help keep your information current and your skills refreshed.

SEND YOUR MATERIALS TO NEW YORK
If CAJM members would like to make brochures available on the opening day of the conference (March 20), please send them to Warren Klein, Temple Emanu-El, One East 65th Street, New York, NY 10065 in early March so that he will have them no later than March 16th.

LET US PUT A SPOTLIGHT ON YOU
CAJM offers resources for learning on our website and at our annual conference, models professional standards, provides opportunities for information exchange, and works on behalf of Jewish museums and museums throughout North America, like the Laurie M. Tisch Gallery at JCC Manhattan, where Laurie Swanson: Resistance opens on March 10. As here, the four-foot-tall artist often attempts to conceal herself in order to simultaneously resist and call attention to the viewer's gaze.
