Camp Boggy Creek

Summer camp can be a wonderful opportunity for children to learn and grow. While having epilepsy doesn't prevent a child from going to camp, sometimes it does affect a parent's decision in selecting a summer camp.

Children with epilepsy, ages 7-16, are eligible to attend Camp Boggy Creek, a medical camping center founded by the late Paul Newman and General Norman Schwarzkopf. The camp is designed and equipped for children who have chronic or life-threatening illnesses. Camp sessions are one week.

Family Voices Celebrates Autism Awareness Month

Since the 1970s, April has been known as Autism Awareness Month in the United States as well as other parts of the world. The Autism Society (autismsociety) says this commemoration highlights the growing need for concern and awareness about autism. As April begins, Family Voices would like to acknowledge and honor all of the people who are working to create greater awareness of the needs of children and youth living with autism, and their special families and caregivers. April is National Occupational Therapy Month
As an occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant, you are part of a vitally important profession that helps people across the lifespan participate in the things they want and need to do through the therapeutic use of everyday activities. Your holistic and customized approach to evaluations, interventions, and outcomes help a child with disabilities participate in school and in social situations, assist a person recovering from injuries to regain skills, aid an older adult to stay as independent as possible, and offer the specialized support and services to people of all ages and in all circumstances that only occupational therapy can provide. April is National Minority Health Month

National Minority Health Month Kicks Off

It's April and National Minority Health Month is underway across the nation! This year, the Office of Minority Health and our partners are dedicating the month of April to raising awareness about the remarkable moment of opportunity to advance health equity through the Affordable Care Act. By improving access to quality health care for all Americans, the Affordable Care Act will help reduce health disparities that plague communities of color and result in higher rates of disease and premature death.
