Albuquerque, New Mexico:

Today Family Voices announced a free Fall "Giving Thanks" raffle for families of children and youth with special health care needs and/or disabilities. Many cultures include giving thanks as part of a harvest festival at the end of the growing season.  Family Voices would like to honor this tradition by giving families of children and youth with special health care needs and/or disabilities the opportunity to share what they are grateful for in having their children. Many, if not most, families see their children as their greatest harvest. For this raffle, families will share  gratitude's about their experiences with their special children, and be entered in drawings for $100 Target gift cards.

Diabetes: Have Questions? Get Answers From the Experts!

Participants must call (561) 233-1742 to register.

Learn about diabetes at a free workshop offered by the Palm Beach County Cooperative Extension. The workshop will include presentations by a CVS Pharmacist, Registered Dietitian Certified Diabetes Educator, and a Fitness Expert.  Registered nurse students will be testing for glucose and blood pressure.

November is Diabetes Prevention month. Many people may have the disease for more than six years and not know they are diabetics. Symptoms like increased urination, excessive thirst or hunger, weight loss, fatigue, wounds that are hard to heal, and blurred vision may be a signal; but unfortunately sometimes type 2 diabetes has no symptoms. Early treatment to control blood glucose levels helps decrease a person's chances of developing blindness, kidney or heart disease, and amputations.

Come to this training and find the answers to your questions from the experts in the field. Collaborators will include CVS Pharmacy, PBC Department of Health, Academy of Nursing and Health Occupations and Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation.
