When Santa flew over Lanesboro
...he changed his course, doubled back and landed somewhat gracefully on Parkway, barely budging a grain truck . He came to a complete stop at 207 Parkway Ave N, hoisted his ample body off the sled and lumbered into the Marketplace. As he wandered around the store he hohohoed many times with delight and amazement at what his shiny eyes took in:
- Goods made with love and passion in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa.
- An opportunity for artisan and food consignors to showcase their abundance of skills and their expertise at growing food.
- A board of directors tirelessly committed to provide this opportunity to producers and artisans.
- Dedicated staff ready to assist and explain information such as origin and growing practices of all goods.
- A place for locals and tourists to get the essentials and the special things in life.
Of course Santa couldn't resist these wonderful goods and loaded his sled to the brim.
- He then looked across the street and decided to really get into the Spirit of Christmas by watching "The Christmas Carol" at the Commonweal Theater.
- Too tired to fly his sled, he took a room at an inn (well, you figure out which of the many lodgings it is, but not many have a sled parked right in front).
- Ready to move on the next day, he limbered up at the Fitness Center
- shopped a lot more in all those unique shops,
- had a great lunch on Parkway,
- stopped by the Chamber office to get info for his summer vacation,
- and was tempted by the real estate listings (Sale of North Pole residence pending).
Just when he thought he'd seen it all, he came across Sylvan Park and just
- had to swing in at the library for a quick read
- then hustled his reindeer up to the school to delight everyone from daycare kids to high school seniors with his good nature.
By now reporters were trailing this prominent person
anxiously awaiting explanation to why he was in little Lanesboro. Santa, all relaxed and satisfied, looked a bit surprised: "Why, you ask? Well, I tell you why! The birds eye view drew me in, but eye to eye with Lanesboro and its people... that's what really made it worth my stop."
The Marketplace was happy to have been a part in Santa's experience in Lanesboro, MN Happy Holidays to all our members, supporters, and customers!

Ferndale Market
John Peterson and family invite you to Ferndale Market this Saturday, December 8 from 1-5 pm as they kick off the holiday season, with "local" style! The market will be full of holiday samples, great meal ideas using local foods, a gift box building station, and they'll even have a visit from Christmas carolers at 4pm.
As an extra special treat, Ed & Mary Lorentz, founders of Lorentz Meats, will be there at 1 pm to share the history and stories behind their traditional holiday sausages. Families have been enjoying these local favorites for generations and there are sure to be some interesting tales from the faces behind the meat counter for so many years. Of course, Ed & Mary will share samples too, so come at 1 pm to try Potato Sausage, Blood Sausage, Country Style Sausage, Smoked Country Style Sausage, and Swedish Meatballs.
The Petersons and staff look forward to seeing you Saturday to add some local flavors under your Christmas tree!
Thanks!

Joan Finnegan
Joni Finnegan delighted customers and staff with a painting demonstration during the Marketplace Open House on Sunday, December 2. Brush in hand minutes after she arrived, Joni seemed to give the canvas a random stroke of paint here and there. A few hours later the canvas seemed to have magically transformed into a beautiful spring landscape. Joni's art features a variety of styles and themes including fruit and vegetable paintings. One of her recent paintings pictures the Elstad Lutheran Church near Lanesboro in a winter setting, ready for sale as a print and card. Thank you, Joni for taking time to share your artistic talent.

Wayne, creator of Root River Lures
Not much to report on fishing for October. My attention has turned to some Fall hunting. Some of my hunting results are incorporated into Root River Lure fishing lures. We utilize the deer tails and pheasant feathers from the game I harvest in the bucktails we create. Another focus isgetting ready for the holidays. We have fully stocked the Root River Lure display at Lanesboro Local. When thinking about a gift for your favorite fisherman, consider a quality handcrafted lure from Root River Lures. We package a lot of the lures in hand stamped wooden boxes that make great displays. Also, the individual trout and walleye spinners make great stocking stuffers. Lastly, we stocked our annual fishing lure Christmas bulb. We only produce 36 bulbs a year, with a different designed lure each year.
Take some time to reflect on the terrific fishing season we had in S.E.Minnesota, but it also is never to early to start dreaming about next season. I know I am! Take Care! Root River Lure
