Sally Gehrke | | Beautiful displays at Sustainable Dream Greenhouse between Whalan and Peterson, MN |
Sal, owner of Sustainable Dream Greenhouse reaches out to facilitate gardening classes. She writes: Our Volunteer Facilitator, Robin, from Restorative Justice, just gave me the word that I have passed all the background checks and have the go ahead from the Prairie du Chien Prison to teach there. After meeting with a few of the prisoners, I see that they seem eager to learn more and would like to start their own garden journals to plan for not only the spring, but also their release. So far this endeavor has proven to be extremely productive and satisfying to all involved. I'm happy to bring the courses that I have been teaching all these years at my Greenhouse to the inmates at the prison. They seem especially eager and grateful. Empowerment through Community Volunteerism.

Wayne, creator of Root River Lures
Not much to report on fishing for October. My attention has turned to some Fall hunting. Some of my hunting results are incorporated into Root River Lure fishing lures. We utilize the deer tails and pheasant feathers from the game I harvest in the bucktails we create. Another focus isgetting ready for the holidays. We have fully stocked the Root River Lure display at Lanesboro Local. When thinking about a gift for your favorite fisherman, consider a quality handcrafted lure from Root River Lures. We package a lot of the lures in hand stamped wooden boxes that make great displays. Also, the individual trout and walleye spinners make great stocking stuffers. Lastly, we stocked our annual fishing lure Christmas bulb. We only produce 36 bulbs a year, with a different designed lure each year.
Take some time to reflect on the terrific fishing season we had in S.E.Minnesota, but it also is never to early to start dreaming about next season. I know I am! Take Care! Root River Lure
