One year the nationals (a two day event) were held in Fairbanks Alaska along with the single Block (a 3 day event) and the multi block (a 6 day event).  For a total of 11 long days of competing in fairly cold temperatures.  At the time, I had been experiencing my lower back hurting at events like this, so for this event I decided to wear one of the above heat packs daily.  It was great, the warmth kept my muscles nice and loose.  Now we wear them every time there is a multi block competition.  This combined with exercises to strengthen the core have all but eliminated back isssues.
