concurrently with the 14th Byways to the Past Conference.

Debra Frawley, Greenways Coordinator, served as a panelist regarding "Trails & Tourism," alongside Will Prince from The Progress Fund and Brad Clemenson on behalf of the PA Environmental Council.  This session explored tourism opportunities that exist in trailside communities and showcased tools that a community can use to maximize the benefits of an existing or proposed trail.

Attendees Marilyn Black from the Oil Region Alliance and multiple PennDOT District 1-0 engineering staff from Oil City sat in on "Historic Bridge Basics" learning the fundamentals of bridge types, designs, components and characteristics as well as engineering bridge terminology.  Mrs. Black also attended sessions about Metal Truss Bridges in particular, as well as a session on preserving PA's Tourist Rail Lines.

During the plenary session on July 18, the snack break featured distinctive foods from each of the dozen Heritage Areas across the Commonwealth.  Maple-coated nuts produced by Dennis Farms in Cooperstown, PA were quite a hit with conference goers.

Alliance staff contacted Mr. Vitka to seek interest in a mutual relationship of the mission of Youth Alternatives which provides support, and encourages and empowers youth in the private, social, academic, economic and other dimensions of their lives: to augment and/or compliment existing services in Venango County to youth. As the saying goes, "it takes a community to raise a child" and it's wonderful to see the youth volunteering with a sense of pride.

Pictured here are Kip, Nick, and Rosalie. At this volunteer session, they are completing exterior cleanup on the newly purchased Downs Building located in downtown Oil City. The volunteers from ages 8-18 have graciously provided assistance to the Alliance staff by helping with projects such as moving large boxes, attic cleanup, folding brochures, and work related efforts  at project sites for the Alliance. Accolades to the kids and crew from Youth Alternatives.  We are grateful for your service.
