May 2013

Greetings!

Happy Mother's Day to all of our pet-parent moms. We hope you have a wonderful holiday! This issue of the Pet Tips & Treats newsletter covers heat safety tips, gently used items = saved lives, an employee spotlight, and a coupon for your next stay with us. Please share this newsletter with others who also cherish pets of their own.
Hot Weather Safety Tips
Dog wearing sunglasses wear sombrero
Provide shade in hot
weather for pets outdoors.

In hot weather, pets can get dehydrated quickly, so give them plenty of fresh, clean water. Avoid metal bowls outside; they can heat up quickly. Also, tip proof bowls are essential in the summer heat.

While your pet is outside, make sure they have a shady place to get out of the sun. Do not leave your pet outside for extended periods. Keep them indoors when it's extremely hot.

Be careful to not over-exercise. Any high energy activities should be reserved for the early morning or late evenings, when temperatures are coolest. Indoor activities are preferable on the hottest days. Also, doggie day care at Second Home Pet Resort is a great way to ensure your dog is getting adequate activity without being exposed to extreme heat.

Gently Used Items = Saved Lives

http://www.azfaccs.org/donation/make-donation
By donating your gently-used items, you can help save the lives of dogs and cats in Maricopa County. On your next visit to Second Home Pet Resort, bring your gently used items to be delivered to our partner, Friends of Animal Care & Control for their thrift store. A tax deductible gift receipt will be provided when you drop off your donations at Second Home Pet Resort. Or make a tax-deductible donation online; $60 provides a spay/neuter for one dog or cat.
Employee Spotlight:
Colleen Frankie, Lead Guest Services Attendant

Colleen is a "Jane of All Trades" and has worked in many industries. While volunteering with Paw Placement, she came
to the realization that she wanted to work with animals full-time and decided to join Second Home Pet Resort. Colleen joined our team one year ago as a Guest Services Attendant, and she serves as a Lead Guest Services Attendant in the evenings. She still volunteers with Paw Placement.

While on the job, Colleen met Marco, the handsome 18 month old Mastiff mix in the photo, a dog from the AZ Mastiff Rescue who was staying with us at the resort. Colleen could not resist Marco's adorable smile and sweet demeanor. She ended up adopting Marco, who now comes to work with Colleen whenever possible. Colleen also has a one year old cat, Turbo, who was adopted from the Arizona Humane Society.

In her time off, Colleen enjoys riding her mountain bike (but not on mountains), reading (fiction and sci-fi), crocheting ("like a granny"), and experimenting with new recipes that her significant other, Rick, willingly enjoys.

At the resort, you will see Colleen greeting guests, showing them to their accommodations, preparing meals, administering medication, and ensuring our guests' overall safety, comfort, and happiness.
