Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2006

Wilfred Wong 92 Points- "Over the years, the Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet has gotten better and better. The wine is generally elegant and smooth on the palate. The 2006 is really delish, with plenty of tart red currant flavors; soft tannins and a nice easiness on the palate; smooth and layered in the finish; some tannins still there, but they are delicate and well incorporated in the overall character of the wine. (Best Served: 2014-2020)"
 
Winery - The 2006 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon combines full body and richness with moderate alcohol. It has a garnet color and a nose of cassis liqueur, nutmeg and dark chocolate. On the palate, it has a rich, mouth-coating attack, great expression of fruit, a full-body and beautifully integrated tannins that lead to a long, spicy finish. Given proper cellaring, this wine will give drinking pleasure through 2026.

Wine & Spirits 91 Points- "This is a dark-fruited and floral 2006, with more of the tobacco and green herb character than most growers in Napa Valley allow cabernet to express. That varietal character adds complexity and firm structure to a rich and sleek wine. Cellar it for several years to let the oak integrate into fruit, then serve with prime rib." Drink now to 2020.
 
Winery - Our 2006 Napa Valley, a blend of wine from vineyards throughout the appellation, is 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. We blended the vineyard lots in early 2007 and transferred the wine to 100% new American oak barrels for aging. Blending prior to barreling allows us to achieve a balance of the wine's primary elements, such as fruit and tannin, before they are influenced by oak. The wine was then aged in barrel for approximately 25 months and another 20 months in bottle to harmonize its components before release.

Excellent in its balance and ripeness, this could be one of top wines of the year! Medium to dark ruby color; savory aroma, maybe some mint, kind of fascinating and surprising, red currants and oak comes up with a bit of aeration and builds to a fine crescendo, fine depth; medium bodied and finely structured on the palate; dry, nice acidity, well balanced; oak, red currants and savory spices in its youthful flavors; long in the finish and poised in the aftertaste. Winery "Our 2011 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is composed of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. It was blended in early 2012 and aged for 24 months in 40% new and 60% once-used American oak barrels. Early blending assures a balanced core and allows the components to achieve a seamless harmony during barrel aging. After bottling in the spring of 2014, the wine was aged an additional 18 months in bottle before being released."
