Amarone has been produced since Roman Times and is made by a special process where grapes are dried (passito) before being pressed almost as raisins. The resulting wine is an intensely aromatic and flavored dry red wine. Made in the Veneto region of northeastern Italy it is arguably the region's most prestigious red wine. The grapes used to make amarone wines are of the local Corvina variety and its sub-variety Corvinone. They are picked in whole clusters and placed in drying rooms (with warm temperatures and low humidity) from three weeks to three months. The grapes' high sugar content means a higher potential alcohol, so a complete fermentation results in a strong wine of 15 or 16 percent alcohol by volume. However, the richness and barrel aging makes this a full bodied smooth luscious complex red unlike anything you have ever tasted. This wine offers a deep cherry perfume with purple color, on the palate there are layers of luscious dark berry notes, slight jam and a long rich finish. Drink now to 2030.

Tanzer 90 Points International Wine Cellar- "Dark ruby-red. Balsamic vanilla complements ripe dark plum and blueberry syrup on the nose. Rich, dense and suave, with a cherry cola quality to the ripe dark fruit and herbal flavors. Finishes long and very clean, with rising, slightly drying tannins, but there's so much fruit here that the tannins don't dominate. This richer, riper style of Rosso may have been just a little too extracted, but I think it will have quite a few fans. "

*this wine is made by doing whole berry fermentation in small oak cask. The end of the cask is opened and filled with grapes and then resealed. Then the barrels are rolled back and forth on tracks during the whole berry barrel fermentation. The resulting wine is truly amazing and there is no other wine in the world that I have heard of that is made in this labor intensive way. The resulting wine is truly worth the effort and it is a bargain to boot!
