Carmel Road Winery is located in the heart of Monterey County where the air is crisp and the tempo is relaxed and measured. Most mornings our sustainably grown vineyards are shrouded in fog. Most afternoons a brisk wind blows from the Monterey Bay southward along the ridge tops and benchlands of Salinas Valley delivering fresh, cool maritime air. For years our region was considered too cold and windy to grow world-class grapes. Today, Monterey boasts some of the most highly-acclaimed AVAs in all of California. Since 1999 Carmel Road has been producing stunning Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs from some of Monterey's finest benchland vineyards using innovative and sustainable farming and winemaking practices. We've grown grapes in Arroyo Seco for nearly 15 years, continually evolving our practices to become better farmers. Since 2008 our vineyards have been certified sustainable by the SIP organization (Sustainability In Practice). We believe that making great wine in Monterey and preserving this special place go hand in hand. Constant innovations, whether in the vineyard or winery, help us maintain this commitment. It's about minding the details - reducing our water and energy use, utilizing natural predators like falcons to help manage vineyard pests, and restoring a natural blue line stream on our vineyard site. We watch our impacts to foster a biosphere that will persevere for generations.

Located at the northern end of Santa Barbara County, Cambria's estate vineyards thrive on the foothills of the largest east-west oriented valley on the West Coast. With the Pacific Ocean just 15 miles away, coastal air and fog temper the sun that shines on south-facing vineyards. As a level 1 climate, it is one of the coolest wine-growing regions in the world, while the long growing season results in fully developed and concentrated flavors in the fruit. Fourteen different types of soil make up 4 distinct vineyards on just over 1600 acres. The wines made here are world class at terrific prices!

This wine is just stunning! I had not tasted it in years and it reminds me that we should be drinking more Great Cali Syrah! This is another impressive Syrah from California's south central coast, dark ruby/purple-color, wonderful aromatics dark cherries and blackcurrants, opulently rich, full-bodied flavors, considerable extract, and lusciously silky smooth tannins. The wine is loaded with rich, concentrated layers of fruit and is perfectly balanced and drinking beautifully. Drink it over the next 10 years.
